Serie A USA launches 'Calcio Weekly' newsletter for North American Fans

The weekly newsletter will bring the latest news and updates from Italy’s top soccer division to a North American audience, with an unprecedented focus on United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) players in the league

NEW YORK, NY (OCTOBER 16, 2023) - Lega Serie A USA is launching a brand-new weekly newsletter, bringing Italian soccer news, match previews, and analysis to fans in the North American market.

The newsletter, titled Calcio Weekly, will send its first email to subscribers on Thursday October 19, in advance of AC Milan’s clash with Juventus on Sunday October 22.

Introduced as part of Lega Serie A USA’s ‘Made In Italy’ initiative for the 2023-24 season, the newsletter will serve as a weekly aggregation of news from the world of calcio (the Italian word for ‘soccer’) while also offering exclusive content, and a preview of the slate of upcoming games each week.

Calcio Weekly will also offer an unprecedented focus on American players in the league, including Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah at AC Milan, and Weston McKennie and Tim Weah of Juventus. Fans should have the chance to see all four United States Men’s National Team players when the two teams meet on October 22.

“Since establishing our offices in New York, Serie A has committed to providing ways for fans to engage with, learn about, and develop a greater connection with the league,” says Lega Serie A USA CEO and Managing Director Andy Mitchell. “Calcio Weekly will be an essential accompaniment for long-time fans and newcomers alike and will perfectly complement our broadcast coverage, rapidly growing social media presence, and community efforts.”

Calcio Weekly will be edited by U.S. soccer personality Ryan Bailey, currently a host on The Athletic’s Total Soccer Show podcast, and a Senior Account Director at global sports PR firm Red Knot Communications. Bailey has provided editorial content for the likes of Major League Soccer, Yahoo Sports, Bleacher Report, and has launched major newsletter initiatives for brands including Men’s Health Magazine. He recently returned to the U.S. after a two-year spell working in Rome.

“Serie A has become appointment viewing for American soccer fans, with four of the USMNT starting XI playing for two of the world’s biggest clubs,” says Bailey. “Calcio Weekly will curate the most important stories from all 20 teams in the league, bringing fans all the insight they need in one easily digestible weekly read. I'm thrilled to work on this project for Lega Serie A USA, which will undoubtedly help grow the presence of a league that never fails to deliver drama, beauty and utterly captivating soccer.”

Newsletter content will be collated by journalists in Italy, offering a unique on-the-ground perspective and unparalleled insight into calcio culture. Calcio Weekly will also feature regular contributions from CBS Sports analysts, who will be familiar to North American fans from Paramount broadcast coverage of the league.

As part of Lega Serie A USA’s ‘Made In Italy’ initiative, launched in September in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The Italian Trade Agency, the newsletter will also feature content reflecting the food, fashion, industry and culture that combine to make Serie A a truly unique and globally recognized league.
